Blizz-Conned
Absolutely unbelieveable. Either this is a bad April fool’s joke (a favorite pasttime of Blizzard Entertainment) or there was a meeting to determine how best to start screwing up a sure thing. In a mindbogglingly stupid announcement from Blizz Con it was revealed that StarCraft II, which is already going to be late, is now set to be released as a trilogy, rather than as a single game. As in, one race per game.
Details are still sketchy as to how this will work, but it appears that there will be an initial release, followed by two expansion packs, and then inevitably, a full collectors edition. Does that mean only one race is playable in the initial release? Or does it mean that you’ll have hands-on experience with every race before you even play through their respective campaigns? Either way you cut it, this is hugely dissapointing.
It’s always sad, if not expected, to see Blizzard’s self-aggrandizement once again soar to new heights. But this time they’ve finally crossed the line: not only are they ruining the structure of the game, but they’re also expecting us to pay for each release. This strategy is so sickening that it’s given me a full blown headache to write out this report on it without swearing.
I better get some pain medication ready for the rest of the convention announcements.
