New Company Lets Console Gamers Win (Or Lose) Money While Competing From Their Couch

If you’re not a pro gamer, making big money by playing games seems like a pipe dream.

But World Gaming wants to change that.

The brainchild of gamers Billy Levy and Zack Zeldin, the World Gaming website is a place where gamers can set up matches and compete against each other in Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3 titles to win money.

So basically, it is a gambling site but instead of poker you are playing video games. Sounds interesting, but I am curious how they are tracking the tournament. They say they have access to the game data, but how? They would almost need a player in each match to get the official stats unless they have a deal with the games publishers to get that info.

Either way, although it’s not for me as I am too good at games and it would not be fair to the rest of you, it does give people a new way to enjoy (or hate) video games. Hopefully not too many people lose their life savings to Halo 3 tournaments.

Yikes! It looks like a neat idea but it could be dangerous for some people.

I agree, it could be fun among friends, but it could also become as addicting as normal gambling to other people. Although if you are fantastic like me you could make a good bit of money :)
