Next Generation Nintendo to use Cartridges… again…

Gaming company Nintendo is rumored to be ready to use cartridges for it’s next generation console. Code named ‘Geraldo’ these new cartridges would seem like a step back in time for the gaming community.

“Not so,” a source said on the condition that her name would not be released, “with the advances in flash memory, these new cartridges can hold as much as a DVD, but the speed is amazing. Loading screens will be a thing of the past. Also, the cost will only be slightly higher, which most people already expect from Nintendo anyway.”

We had a chance to look at the new design for the cartridges and they are very interesting. They are fairly small, and the connection between the machine and cartridge is done with 4 USB 2.0 ports. It actually looked like it was 4 USB memory sticks stuck together inside a cartridge.

“That’s right,” she said “we split the games up over 4 modules in the cartridge, like the graphics on one, the music and FMV on others. This speeds up the access time dramatically, no flickering or loading times anymore”.

We aren’t sure if this is going to work out, but somehow Nintendo always seems to survive, even with their very odd hardware choices. More on this when it becomes available.
